PD Dog School, based in Nottingham and covering the whole of the UK, are German Shepherd Training specialists, working with all breeds of dog from twelve weeks old. The German Shepherd is a medium-large sized dog, originating from Germany. The first breeder, Max von Stephanitz bought a wolf-like dog with yellow and black fur at a Dog show in Western Germany in 1899 after being impressed with its temperament and intelligence.
From then on German Shepherds were bred for herding sheep on farms. However, due to their high levels of intelligence, obedience, strength and trainability, they have become the preferred breed for various types of work, including disability assistance, search-and-rescue, police and even military roles. As such a bright breed with impressive qualities, it’s important to undertake German Shepherd puppy training as soon as possible to prevent forming bad habits.
Training options include:
This breed is moderately active and very self-assured, which is why so many people choose a German Shepherd Protection Dog. They’re well known for their willingness to learn, enthusiasm to please and eagerness to have a purpose, so a role that demands your dog’s natural protective instinct is perfectly suited.
We’ll begin the German Shepherd training with basic obedience, including “sit”, “stay”, “down”, food refusal and recall. Once they have mastered the key components of the obedience course, we’ll move onto more specialist training to prepare them for their future role. Early socialisation is imperative for the German Shepherd to prevent unwanted aggression and shyness when out in public spaces. They also have a bite force of over 10,060 newtons, unlike a human’s of 380 newtons, so it’s crucial to train them to bite only when commanded to.
