Rottweiler Puppy Training

Based in Nottingham and serving the whole of the UK, PD Dog School are Rottweiler training specialists, working with puppies from twelve weeks of age. Rottweilers are considered a medium-large breed of dog, known for their distinct levels of confidence, intellect and loyalty.

They were bred in the town of ‘Rottweil’ in Germany, as far back as 73-74 AD, as livestock herding and bear hunting dogs for the Ancient Romans. During WWI and WWII, Rottweilers were used in a variety of roles, including messenger, ambulance and protection dogs. In some parts of the world, they are still used for herding livestock but they are most commonly used by the police and search-and-rescue or protection dogs. Rottweiler puppy training is crucial to channel their natural protective instincts and prevent bad habits from forming.

Training options include:

  • Basic obedience
  • Intermediate/advanced obedience
  • Person protection training
  • Executive protection training

Rottweiler Protection Dog

Rottweiler protection dogs are often the breed of choice because of their strong muscular frame and intimidating stance. They require a calm and stable ‘pack leader’ to keep them from assuming the role themselves, so professional training is essential to assert yourself as a confident and firm handler. Rottweilers are good-natured, powerful and are willing to learn new skills, so they make great pets as well as protection or service dogs.

We begin our professional training with regular socialisation in busy public places, to prevent any unwanted aggression or shyness in adulthood. We’ll move onto basic obedience ensuring that they correctly respond to “sit”, “stay”, “down”, recall and food refusal. Once they have mastered the initial commands, we’ll progress onto specialist training suited for their future role.
