Staffy Pup Training

Based in Nottingham and serving the whole of the UK, PD Dog School are Staffordshire Bull Terrier training experts, working with puppies from twelve weeks of age. Most commonly known as “Staffies”, they were originally bred as a strong and courageous fighting and bull-baiting dogs before the Cruelty to Animals Act was passed in 1835: protecting animals by banning blood sports.

The Staffordshire Bull Terrier originates from the now-extinct Bull and Terrier cross, and even has the Border Collie and Dalmation in their ancestry! They are a people-orientated, loving and loyal breed that can also be quite stubborn, strong and firm. Staffy pup training and socialisation is crucial from an early age to enhance their natural people-pleasing qualities and ensure that they are amiable with other dogs. Without proper training they are prone to severe chewing, so we always recommend having plenty of chew toys around!

Training options include:

  • Basic obedience
  • Intermediate/advanced obedience
  • Person protection training
  • Executive protection training

Expert Training

Our expert training starts with basic obedience, ensuring your staffy puppy responds correctly to “sit”, “stay”, “down”, recall and food refusal. We’ll also socialise your dog and introduce them to busy public places to prevent unwanted aggression and shyness. Once your dog has mastered the obedience course, we’ll move onto specialist Staffy training, such as protection or service training.

Staffordshire Bull Terriers are eager to please their human companions and they respond very well to positive reinforcement. Due to their love of people, Staffordshire Bull Terrier’s don’t always cope with being left alone for long periods of time. This breed is great for a first-time dog owner, but it’s always advisable to undertake expert training as soon as possible to prevent bad behaviours forming as habits.
